Better put a notch in the oil pan! It is amazing how things that should not contact each other find a way to contact somehow. The rig is getting big! :beers:

cmartin 10-08-2013 03:04 PM

Thanks guys. I'm really liking how it is coming together. I hope if the bar notches the oil pan it only goes up a little with no leaks. :)

looking good!

x2... I don't believe that finger distance will be enough for deflection of the whole assembly... good news is that it will "self clearance" fairly easily, the bad news is that the potential damage to an oil pickup could cause serious problems down the trail...

Just my opinion... :beers:

Looking great!

X3... I thought I had enough room between my oil pan and my steering ram, but after bottoming the front end hard a few times it made a nice imprint in the pan. Luckily, no leaks.

We built the jeep at ride height. I cut the upper pan hard bracket to fit with the numbers. I guess missing the oil pan was a bonus on the first try. I'll keep an eye on it but will need to order another one to get it to mount in a lower hole. Thanks for the input

After some prying and pulling was able to split the 249 and get out the input and planetary. The 231 was a lot easier to split. It already had a 6 gear planetary that I could use with my input shaft. Cleaned it up and put it back together. Hope to put it up in the jeep in the next few days

Thanks to huntingmatt418 joe and rolf

Had to order the transfer case to trans studs. I couldn't get the ones out of my 249. So the new case to go in this week.

Got the disk brakes on the 14 bolt.

Cut the fenders last night. I like the back but rethinking the front. Got some inner fender area to cut out and rebox in the front behind the head lights. The battery box and air box will need moved. Thanks to the guys who came and hung out yesterday

Ordered a custom fuel cell from RCI. It is the 30*12*9 but I had them not put in the sending unit or pick up lines on it. I bought a fuel cell adapter ring from genright that uses the stock jeep sender with the In tank pump and regulator.

A few pics of the fender and door on the passenger side after the cut. I started the fill in process. After a lot of trimming and fitting I got the fill in piece to fit and filled. Not to bad since I hadn't ever worked sheet metal before.

Got the door sealed up and the inner fender finished at the bottom.

Also got my fuel cell I ordered from RCI. Looks good. Plenty of room for the genright adapter

cmartin 01-02-2014 12:24 AM

Got the genright adapter ring installed tonight. I used a ΒΌ" drill bit for the holes and a jig saw with a metal blade for the big hole. I also put masking tape down to protect the cell.

The gasket maker I used. Seemed thin but got sticky quick

Put together

If anyone uses this adapter put the gasket in the adapter NOT on the sender. Ask me how I know.
All installed

Been trying to get back at it after the holidays and cold weather. Got the inner fender on passenger side almost done.

Rough fit

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/04/erahe5yd.jpg

Also got all the fittings and steering column adapter. Hope to finish all of the steering up soon.

Got the fender well welded in

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/07/nuge7y9u.jpg

All boxed in

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/07/uha8e5e5.jpg

Cut the trim panel to fit. Don't know if I like where the pocket was since I had to cut it out. O well I want to have the trim in. At least from behind the seatbelt forward.

Got the jeep spun around in the garage this past weekend. Now I can start on the driver side rear fender.

Took a break on the fenders to work on the steering a little bit. Got the new pump.

Made templates for the orbital mount. Plan on using the steering gear mounting holes to bolt the mount to the frame

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/y4y5a3u2.jpg

And cut the steering shaft so it will slip in and out. It was pressed at the stock length. Grinded off the pressed part and now it slips

Stock length 21"

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/y8ehuse5.jpg

Collapsed to 16"

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/20/8u6ubepa.jpg

Also had to file a little on the inner shaft cause it had some kind of a coating that made it to tight to slip easy.

cmartin 02-25-2014 11:23 PM

Got the bracket for the orbital made up. It was harder than I thought it would be to fit it in there. It ended making the steering shaft a little closer to the header than I wanted but ended up good. If I would have angled it the orbital lines would have ran close to the belt.

The reason for the bracket. The unibody has an offset where the steering box was.

Ran wire for the lengths of the hydro lines. Got them all mocked up.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/26/3u6uzuba.jpg

May run this one in front of the upper bracket. But there is more room than it looks.

Looks good nerd. :applause:

cmartin 03-05-2014 12:12 PM

Back on the fenders. Got the fuel door opening closed up. The opening had a rolled lip that made it easy to fit the filler piece in and weld. I completely welded the outside and put a lot of tacks on the inside on that lip.

Got the rear fenders done. The trim panel is trimmed.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/19/e7a3u4eb.jpg

How I think I'm going to set the tank. To keep room for the batteries. If they don't fit on the other side I'll center the tank.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/19/dyqumy3y.jpg

Passenger side

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/19/amyvy5yb.jpg

When I get my battery boxes I'll see if they fit in the extra space. If not I'll back up and punt and try something else with them.
