Going to India

Yup thats right. End of April. My wife and I are going to work with the International Justice Mission and Crossover Foundation. India has a major issue with sex slavery and forced prostitution. Most of the time parents send their kids off "to be in a movie" or because they think they are sending their kids off to some better opportunity.

We are headed there for several reasons. One is to put on a marriage retreat for the local pastors that our organization has partnered with. There are many cultural barriers to having a marriage with transparency openness and trust in India. We are looking to break those barriers and allow them to have successful marriages.

The other reason is to help set up and run the aftercare homes for the girls that are rescued. We will be showing these girls love and showing them not everyone is a bad person. These girls ages range anywhere from 3 to 15. There are 3 year old girls in forced prostitution that we are working with to give them some sort of healing so they can have as normal a life as they can have.

We are looking for support both monetary and spiritual. We need to raise $6000 to do this trip. Everything donated is tax deductable and it never touches my hands. If anyone wants to donate go to www.crossroads.net/gotripgiving locate my name (Tony Vilardo) and click donate. You will be sent a year end contribution statement for tax purposes. We need spiritual support also because this is some crazy heavy stuff we will be doing and will need to be able to keep it together.

Thanks for taking the time to read my novel. Also if anyone has any tips on how to survive Mumbai I welcome those too. Thanks!

Good luck. I've never been to India, but I've been to Egypt, Qatar, UAE, and Afghanistan. The biggest thing to remember is to act like you've been there and done that. Walk with confidence, dress conservatively, and don't look like a tourist. The less you stand out, the better.

Thats great information! You do not want to become a statistic. I can keep your landcruiser for you while you are gone.

Good luck with your mission and hope you succeed. I just don't understand why all church missions go half way across the world when we have enough problems in our back yards!

Most churches have a broad outreach. Our church does an outreach for the local area, areas in eastern Kentucky, and some international. You go where God leads you, even if it's to India.

Tony, spread the Word, and be safe.

Thank you. Our church does several trips to India and South Africa each year. I also try to get to New Orleans for a week each year and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. You go where you are called and you help every one to the best of your ability.

Most of the time the mission trip ministers to the individual more than the people you go to minister to. We go where God leads us. He prepares us for His mission no matter where that may be.

How long are you going to be over there?

I wish I could give you advice, but I don't think anything I can say will prepare you for what you are about to be a part of.
