D&K Offroad Park's "shutdown" ride.

For the last 2 years the D&K Offroad park has been open on holidays and for large parties on reserved weekends but no more, this Memorial day is there last open to the public weekend for the next 48-60 months. They have sold mineral rights to a local coal co. and they plain to start strip mining in the near future:(.

So if you never been there and wished you had this is your last chance! I was there LaborDay 06 and they had allready sold about 1,000 acres of timber, place looked like Hiroshima then but I'm sure it will get worse.

Place is for quads/bikes and rail buggies but capable 4x4's can have a blast there also.

Well if they only sold the coal rights then they still own the land, Does that mean when they are done stripping it it will be a park again? Sounds like a good way to pay for the property and then make it a park.

From what I know they have every intention of reopening when the mining is complete. I also believe that a large portion of the land that's being mined belongs to family members and from what Darryl told the group I was with he plans on purchasing more property adjacent to his.

I don't know what kind of money a deal like this brings but the whole family is probably quite well off now and might not be interisted in running a ORV park.

Time will tell.
