They really asked about beadlocks?

I was starting to think that was an urban legend. Everybody heard about them being "illegal," but no one had any actual, firsthand experience...

it just has to be legal for inspection. friend of mine went to the HP... they told him what he didnt have and needed (kind enough to do it for free) and he threw in a catalytic converter (required if you have e check or not by FEDERAL law) used all turn signals and marker lamps from an on 12v motorcycle he had behind his shed, plexi wind screen, stock bumpers from the truck he used the frame for (truggy), took of his BL's for the inspection and ran stockers with mudflaps... those where the big ones. and make sure your horn works and is loud. i remember he forgot that and had to go back a third time. he said they where very professional and polite and did there best to help him out.... but he also said the guy before him had a mullet and 3 teeth and had pieced together an old ford truck that was way more streetable than his truggy and they gave him a ton of crap. after it was all done and they issued him a certificate of inspection tp get a title, and he got his hands on the title, he took all the dumb stuff back off, and but is BL's back on.

when i was in the military a top told me once... "if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck" just make it look like your trying to get it right and be legal and not take short cuts, and you want know what your doing and be polite and as professional as they are being with you and its really no big deal.

i had a jeep inspected ages ago with no problems. (title records had been destroyed)

Never said they asked about them. But if they see a huge set of thick rings with 36 gold bolts that may start a chain reaction. It can be done but you need to follow the rules.

As for tire coverage, I know there is a reg that commercial trucks must run mudflaps, and stipulates the exact size.

But I haven't been able to find anything covering private vehicles.

If anyone has the ticket and/or reg#, I'd love to see it. I like to be proven wrong almost as much as being right...

Then I get to be right the next time...

I won't argue that somebody might of gotten a ticket for those items, but I will argue that the ticket would of not stood up in court. As mentioned there are no specific laws against beadlocks (anywhere in the U.S.A.), and no mention of tire coverage on private vehicles in the state of Ohio.

Several years ago on the way between the gas station/parking area and the trail a highway patrol officer flagged over 3 or 4 of the vehicles in our group and started giving them the riot act and threatening to have the vehicles towed. We finally talked him into letting us go get the trailers (maybe 2 miles away) and get the vehicles. The one guy had a Toyota pickup on full-width D60's and 36" tires....yeah, looked pretty big for a Toyota but not like it had 44's and 20" of lift. Anyway, the officer wrote him up for too much lift/bumpers too high and several other items (probably for the tires sticking out also, but I forget the specifics). The others got tickets also. The officer did not even measure anything.

To get to the point, all of the people who got tickets contested them in court and immediately got them thrown out...I don't even think they had to speak to the judge. We later heard from a local that this particuliar highway patrol officer wasn't a "regular" and must of been in a bad mood the one weekend he worked the area as he gave out "dozens" of similar tickets to anyone who had loud exhaust or a lifted 4x4 (which is about half the local residents).

Just find a rusted out POS that is cheap and has the same motor as the buggy and is street legal. Then swap the Vin plate over the the buggy dash and go get your plates. They will only want to inspect it if the Title is from another state.

DO NOT DO THIS!

it is illegal and if you are caught (even with it on a trailer) you will recieve HUGE fines and probably prison time. its like forging a legal document. you would have to be a deep woods toothless redneck to even consider this as a possible option. the ramifications for such an action are not worth it.

check madhatters link and read no. 5:
5. Any vehicle or component part bearing a VIN or VIN derivative determined to be stolen/missing or altered will result in the vehicle being impounded and held as evidence and/or seized for forfeiture.

that would just be the beginning of your problems if you were caught.

call a lawyer. if you rnot going to street it or insure it, then call a lawyer and have some sort of offical documentation made up for it with is discription, use and identification, and keep a copy of it in the records dept. if you want to street it, just get over it and make it legal based on the rules. it really isnt that hard.

The reason I put up the penalty is because avoiding the possibility of a year in jail would seem to justify a fair amount of inconvenience.
