Weird car start issue

My girlfriend has an 2000 Monte Carlo, it does this weird thing ever so often where it won't start, just plain won't so anything, no clicking no turbot over nothing, but if you keep trying to start it It wil eventually fire up no problems.has a newer battery. Any ideas?

Could be that the security system is loosing the resistance reading of the key. Once the key is in the ignition for a couple minutes it will reset and start. If that is the issue, it is a fairly common problem with GM Passlock system. Just went through this problem with an 03 Sunfire.

x2 on the security system. My father in-law had a Grand Prix and now an Ols Alero. Sometimes he needs to wait 45 min before his car will start. Garbage. Dealer says they cant do anything.

My boss has a 2000 Astro and occasionally it will not start. It will start then die quickly. If you turn the key on, the security light blinks. After a while, it will start fine. If it doesn't do anything, then it could be the starter or the ignition switch.

Just a shot in the dark but , Remove the positve battery cable from the battery and make sure the threaded stud is clean and all there . My wife's 02 Denali was giving me fits a few years ago not starting and slow cranking and the head lights would dim at idle. It ended up being the positive cable stud. it was almost completely gone. Put a new one in the rubber housing and cranked it down good and tight and have not have a problem since.
